The SafePlace Volunteer Program is a core part of SafePlace's advocacy and prevention efforts. Volunteers help cover the front desk, respond to the hospital for SARP client appointments, work in our shelter and answer our HelpLine. We are so appreciative of our volunteers!
Volunteer Spotlight: Jessica, SafePlace InternJessica came to intern at SafePlace at the beginning of a relaunch of the Volunteer Program. She was the first intern I onboarded with the new system. From the start, having her in Advocacy Core Training (ACT), was awesome. She provided a balanced view and gave honest insights. While some challenging situations occurred during ACT, she remained grounded. Her emotional intelligence was a support to the group.
The first week she started working at shelter, I received an email from the shelter manager expressing how well Jessica was doing. Jessica continued to stay cool in tough situations. She mastered the tenants of core advocacy, active listening, resource sharing, and safety planning. She stays calm during crisis intervention and is a great support to other advocates. We offered Jessica a job at the end of her internship because she was such a great addition to our team. Whatever her path leads her to, Jessica will continue to advocate for survivors. I hold that through the Training and Volunteer Program, SafePlace can do powerful outreach and prevention work. Prevention is the way to freedom from violence. Jessica was a crucial part of me bringing this program to a new level. I am deeply appreciative to her for her time. She will always be a part of the SafePlace and global community of survivors and allies. |
