Our Mission
SafePlace advocates have offered safety and support to survivors of both sexual assault and domestic violence since being established as a nonprofit 501 (C) (3) in 1981 by the merger of Rape Relief and the Women’s Shelter Services, two programs operated by the YWCA since 1973 and 1976, respectively. Consistently striving to put an end to sexual and domestic violence through crisis intervention and education, SafePlace works as an advocate for personal and society change. With a board of directors, staff, and volunteers operating the agency, we at SafePlace are able to sustain our purpose of empowering survivors to make decisions about their lives through means of support services, resources, and readily available information.
Since our inception, we have been both a dual domestic violence and sexual assault provider agency in Thurston County. We are a private non-profit organization, and proud to state our sexual assault program is one of the oldest in the nation. A board of directors, staff, and trained volunteers operate the agency while driving our general purpose of empowering survivors to make decisions about their lives. By offering supportive services, resources and information, SafePlace continues to stand out as Thurston County's leader in helping survivors thrive.
