Bequests and Planned Giving
By making a planned gift to SafePlace, you recognize that people experiencing domestic or sexual violence often need support finding safety. Some of our donors give by leaving a charitable gift in a will or trust. Bequests are the most popular type of planned gifts. Anything you leave to a charitable organization will reduce the size of your taxable estate while helping a great cause. You can leave a specific bequest of a specified sum of money, a percentage of your estate, or a percentage of the residue to SafePlace after making provisions for family and friends. Ask your financial planner for further information about giving this way.
Leaving a bequest for SafePlace is easy. Following is some suggested language for your estate plans:
“I give to SafePlace, currently located at 521 Legion Way SE, Olympia, WA 98501, or its successor organization the sum of (insert here the exact dollar amount or percentage of estate).”
Specific property such as real estate, securities, or other items:
“I give to SafePlace, currently located at 521 Legion Way SE, Olympia, WA 98501, or its successor organization (insert here a description of the particular property, etc).”
You may also wish to include our Federal Tax #: 91-1153988.
Our legal name is SafePlace.
Transfer Stocks & Bonds
Stocks and publicly traded securities are easy to give and offer great tax advantages. You can transfer stock to us electronically or mail us the stock certificate and a signed stock power of attorney for each certificate. Appreciated securities that you’ve held for more than one year should be transferred to us directly. If you do that, you will not pay capital gains tax and you can deduct the full fair market value. If you are holding securities that have lost value, sell the stock yourself to realize the loss and take the deduction for tax purposes. Then generate a charitable contribution deduction by donating the cash proceeds of the sale to us. Ask your financial planner about giving plans that may offer tax savings while supporting our work.
