Nothing could be easier than making a gift of cash to a
charitable organization. It is the most common gift and
the one you probably think of first. All cash donations
up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income are deductible
if you itemize in the year of contribution. Any excess deductions
can be carried forward for the next five.

Goods and services
Many of the people we serve at our shelter and in
the community are left with little to nothing. With your
donations you can help them build up a new life.
There are numerous possibilities to make in-kind-donations
to SafePlace: You can donate gift cards from stores and
restaurants, gas cards, phone cards, houshold needs, furniture,
office supplies, toiletries and much more.
Since our storage space is very limited we can only accept
items that are on our wish list. This wish list changes

Foundation
builders monthly
giving club
SafePlace’s Foundation Builders program was
launched in 2002 to encourage those who support our programs
and services by donating on a regular basis.
Foundation Builders agree to give a small amount each month
to support our mission and work to end sexual and domestic
violence in our community. To become a Foundation Builder,
call the office and let us know the amount you would like
to donate. As a member you receive special notices, updates
and discounts on selected SafePlace events and trainings.
Your gifts support the foundation that allows us to help
women fleeing sexual and domestic violence.
Your monthly tax-deductible gifts will help hundreds of
people each year. Here are some examples of what these donations
do:
- $15 a day will help pay for shelter utilities.
- $25 a month gives one gas card or monthly bus pass.
- $50 a month an emergency hotel stay
- $160 a month can provide one week of groceries for the
shelter.

Bequests and
planned giving
Some of our donors give by leaving a charitable gift in
a will or a trust. Bequests are the most popular type of
planned gifts. Anything you leave to a charitable organization
will reduce the size of your taxable estate while helping
a great cause. You can leave a specific bequest of a specified
sum of money or a particular piece of property to us. Other
options are to leave a percentage of your estate or a percentage
of the residue to SafePlace after making provisions for
family and friends.
Securities
Stocks and publicly traded securities are easy to give and
offer great tax advantages. You can transfer stock to us
electronically or mail us the stock certificate and a signed
stock power for each certificate. Appreciated securities
that you’ve held for more than one year should be
transferred to us directly. If you do that, you will not
pay capital gains tax and you can deduct the full fair market
value. If you are holding securities that have lost value,
sell the stock yourself to realize the loss and take the
deduction for tax purposes. Then generate a charitable contribution
deduction by donating the cash proceeds of the sale to us.
